Cloud Defense and Secure Software Development Testing

Cyber criminals today are well-organised, highly coordinated, profit-oriented and more ferocious than hackers of last decades. With the urgency to address high-profile security breaches, the Institute of Systems Science (ISS) of NUS has collaborated with the Association of Information Security Professionals (AISP) to kick-start a series of technology security talks.

The first talk on Cloud Defense by Akamai Technologies was held on 26 February. The three speakers were Harold Prokop, Akamai's Senior Vice President of Engineering, Zeck Lim, who is responsible for Akamai's entire service line function and Mikko Kortesluoma, a senior solutions architect. They covered high-level trends in the Internet, recent DDOS attacks in USA, Estonia and Georgia and advantages of such a paradigm shift in the defense architecture as well as giving a technical deep dive into the technology behind it.

Mr. Tim Aung Wing

Following up closely was a talk on Secure Software Development and Testing held on 22 April. Tim Aung Wing, an Information Security Manager with Nanyang Polytechnic's School of Information Technology was invited to address the importance of focusing and mitigating potential security issues in the software throughout the life cycle, followed by proper deployment, use, maintenance and support.
