Singapore, 25th September 2009 - The Institute of Systems Science (ISS), NUS is now an affiliate of the Singapore Computer Society (SCS) student chapter. All 230 ISS full-time postgraduate students, who are now SCS student members, joined in the chapter launch at ISS today. ISS is one of the Institutes of Higher Learning to have postgraduate students making up the student chapter.
Being a member, students are able to enjoy free or subsidised student rate for SCS seminars, opportunities to network with IT professionals and to participate in learning forums and educational activities to help them groom their leadership skills. The membership also opens up industrial attachment and employment opportunities for students.
"We stress the importance for students to be exposed to the activities and networking opportunities that SCS offers. They can learn from experienced IT practitioners and get first-hand insights into what to expect when they join the IT work community upon graduation." Said Mr Lim Swee Cheang, CEO/Director of ISS, in his welcome address at the launch.
"Our aim is to provide a channel for students to network with the IT professionals and help them relate theory to business practice in the transition from study to employment. This collaboration is also in alignment with SCS commitment to work with students to help them achieve their goals." Said Mr Alphonsus Pang, President of the Singapore Computer Society.
The event also includes an industry panel discussion themed 'Kick-Start Your IT Career during the Current Economic Climate' with panellists Young Fong, Director, Business Development of Cisco Systems (USA), Deep Singhania, Country Manager & Head, of TCS Singapore, Adrian Chye, General Manager of Media Freaks and Daniel Ray, a student of the Graduate Diploma in Systems Analysis Programme.
