Business, Accounting, Law, the Arts - you might not think of these
as very promising first degrees to have, if you are looking for
a career in IT. And yet, these are some of the backgrounds from
which we recruit students for our Graduate Diploma in Systems Analysis
program, many of whom have also had several years of prior working
experience in banking, insurance, construction, logistics, health
care, publishing and education, just to name a few fields.
Ironically, it is this diversity in fields beyond IT that has been a source of strength for our graduates, by sensitizing them to business, organizational & people issues in implementing IT, and allowing them to look at the "big picture", unblinkered by purely technical considerations. Apart from a firm grounding in programming, systems development methodology and project management, the students are also immersed in some of the latest technologies that they are likely to encounter in their careers. Perhaps more than any other IT program, the course emphasizes the team-based nature of IT work by recreating a team environment for almost every aspect of the students life here. The transition to the rough-and-tumble of real world IT is completed with a 3-month internship attachment on a realistic systems development project. Many employers have been impressed by how quickly our graduates are able to adapt to and become productive in their new environments. You know that it takes a lot more than just slick technical skills to make an effective IT professional. Why not consider hiring our graduates, either on a full-time or contract basis.
