Project Name: Designing the award-winning 'Inside the Istana' Virtual Tour
Company: Singapore Press Holdings (Digital Team)

The team worked in the newsroom at The Straits Times and produced interactive graphics covering local, regional and global news topics for readers to understand the story better through interesting visualisation. Project in The Straits Times interactive graphics team involves front-end development including the ‘Inside the Istana’ Project which is responsive and engages readers effectively through phones or tablets. This project went on to clinch a silver medal at the Malofiej 28th International Infographics Awards also known as the Pulitzers of the industry.

"The cross-disciplinary skills of the GDipSA student was helpful in tackling challenges. Each member had a different background - either humanities or design - and were studying technical skills such as coding and data analysis.

Project Name: Fruits Vending - iJooz Operation Platform
Company: IJOOZ - Fruits Vending Pte Ltd

Students developed a platform for Fruits Vending Pte Ltd to improve their operation productivity. This was done by integrating their existing operation backend system, providing reusable intelligent components and services to help the operation teams to manage the vending machines more efficiently and allowing the world-wide franchisers to use the same platform in future.

"The team is outstanding and we are amazed with what the team has delivered. The team has spent a lot of efforts to understand what we need and provided timely feedback and solutions to meet our requirements. All objectives are met and delivered as planned. They had even help us to setup the production environment and provide training for our engineers."

Project Name: Fraud Analytics Platform
Company: ST Engineering

The project had two objectives with final deployment being on Flask API to integrate with either an existing or a new product. The first part involved finding word similarity which helps in the searching process from open source data like Twitter feed to find words similar/ related to a particular domain. The second part involved improved fraud prediction with the help of neural network.

"NUS-ISS’ has always focused on a hands on approach to learning. This prepares the students well to be immediate contributors to an organisation in the industry. Having gone through MTech myself and to provide internship opportunities for future MTech students, I know how effective the learning is."

Project Name: Image Classification and Captioning for Feedback Reporting System
Company: Surbana Jurong

The goal of this project was a proof of concept to demonstrate the correct classification and remedial action that were implemented when a building user reports a fault. The sponsor has provided multiple images that featured building maintenance faults in three main categories. These three categories include engineering, cleaning and building. Each of the categories were further expanded into subcategories. In the building category for instance, the faults reported were predominantly damaged tiles, ceiling panels or defective doors. The final product of this project seek to develop a mobile app using multimedia modelling (text and image) on real production data.

Project Name: Schmetz Digital Atelier App
Company: Groz-Beckert Singapore

To digitally enable the art of sewing, our students developed their capstone project: the Schmetz Digital Atelier App for Groz-Beckert, to eliminate common sewing pain points and effectively create an online platform to receive up-to-date and relevant information at one’s fingertips. The app is set to digitally transform and elevate the total experience for big players in the sewing industry and even hobbyists.
