At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Understand fundamentals of JAVA and Object-Oriented Programming in JAVA, including defining classes, invoking methods, using libraries, etc.
  • Appreciate engineering issues in the development of JAVA web application, such as design principles, use of appropriate patterns and practices, working with limited resources, maintainability, dependability and division of labour
  • Understand and implement the overall layers, components, services, roles and APIs in JAVA Enterprise Edition
  • Use web components such as Servlets, JAVA Server Pages (JSP) and specific tag libraries to create web applications
  • Use the Spring MVC framework to structure a web application layer, implementing a Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture to automate form handling, use view-templates, intercept cross cutting components, create reports, use AJAX and enhance maintainability
  • Build effective and robust persistence layer with JDBC and Data Access Objects (DAO) pattern directly, and learn to use the popular Hibernate framework under JAVA Persistence Architecture (JPA) standards for simplified access to relational databases
  • Apply design patterns and best practices to improve the robustness and maintainability of applications
  • Improve web forms by designing validation of useful interface elements (example date pickers and range sliders) with server side as well as client side HTML5 mark-up
  • Understand and employ responsive web design patterns and best practices for building user-centric and device sensitive user interfaces
  • Leverage client side technologies such as AngularJS framework to help reorganise device centric codes into reusable modules, views, controllers, service and factories, making the application maintainable
  • Use the cascaded style sheet CSS latest features to design better user experience

Certificate
Participants will be awarded with NUS-ISS Certificate in Digital Solutions Development - Web Applications at the end of the course.
