Consulting Services

NUS-ISS tailor our consulting services based on a deep understanding of your organisation, as well as the business and technological landscape it is situated in. Through a unique train-and-mentor model, we work with you to inspire and drive practical innovation.

Here is an overview of the eleven projects that NUS-ISS supported through our consulting services in 2018.

  • National University of Singapore BPR Consulting

NUS is undergoing an organisation-wide process improvement that will impact the entire organisation. Led by the NUS’ Organisation Excellence Transformation Unit (NUS-OE), the initiative is aimed at enhancing the skillsets of the project teams and key stakeholders involved in redesigning processes and managing the changes. This BPR Consulting project allows for the various process owners to consult our lecturers during their study of the as-is and to-be processes.

    Prof Christopher Chia
Director, Organisational Excellence Transformation Unit (OETU)
    Office of the President,
    National University of Singapore

“NUS embarked on a journey of Organisational Excellence (OE) a year ago. About 200 staff from Corporate functional and Faculty units were nominated to attend a LEadership Accelerator Programme (LEAP). LEAP comprised a series of leadership and management modules conducted by the NUS Business School and an accompanying Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) series of courses conducted by NUS-ISS over the last year.

The series was so popular that a number of NUS units jump started their own OE activities, resulting in a run on the available places on the entire season of BPR programmes. The NUS-ISS consultant built up rapport with the participants through regular consulting efforts, guiding different teams through various stages of the BPR process. This included advising the teams on the optimal ways of laying out “as-is” and “to be” diagrams, allowing rapid ways of establishing quick wins, some of which were quickly deployed. Consulting efforts based on experience and candid advice helped cement a solid foundation for NUS Organisational Excellence efforts, with BPR used as one of the key tools used in process improvement.”

  • National Library Board Advisory to BPR Task Force

For this project, our advisors contributed to the development of the staff at NLB’s Public Library Services (PLS) group. The aim was to help them improve the core PLS operational functions to anticipate and meet PLS’ dynamic and diverse needs for the digital future. The role included advising on NLB’s business processes and systems during the BPR study.

  • Public Transport Council Touchpoint Pilot Study on Whole Journey Experience
    of Public Transport Commuters (Bus)

The PTC collaborated with NUS-ISS on a pilot research study to measure the general public transport commuter’s experience with the public transport system in Singapore. A multi-method research design was used, with online questionnaires and focus-group discussions providing a rich web of information to illustrate the complete journey experience.

ii. Consulting Services to MOHT Transformation

    Winston Chin
    Director (Programmes),
    MOH Office for Healthcare Transformation

“The goal of MOH Office for Healthcare Transformation’s ‘Integrated Health Promotion’ programme is to create, within cutting-edge Healthy Precincts, an integrated, whole-of-ecosystem approach to health promotion, including encouraging active community participation and leadership in promoting community members’ health. MOHT has started work with the development of two Healthy Precincts, the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) campuses.

To kick off this project, NUS-ISS worked closely with MOHT to train and mentor a group of NUS and NTU students in conducting a thorough environmental scan of both campuses, and generating novel ideas for creating healthier communities and ecosystems on campus. The students performed exceptionally and the results of their work provided a strong foundation for subsequent development of the project.”

    Mr Lim Cher Wee,
    Chief Operating Officer,
    MOH Office for Healthcare Transformation

“We love working with Tamsin, Sudha and their team. We have had a few collaborations so far, and the project outcomes—including co-learning and co-creation of ideas—are valued by stakeholders whom we serve and partner. We look forward to more collaborations with the team over the coming months.”
