Beyond IT Project Management 2013 - Advanced IT Management Best Practices

After developing your skills in IT project management (e.g. achieving your PMP), what else is there to know in terms of IT management and best practice?

The answer is plenty!

IT management is required not just during the project lifecycle. It is also required before a project starts, and after a project ends.

It is not just the tactical management of projects that is important, but also other IT management capability that addresses strategic and operational aspects of IT work. Beyond the well-known project management bodies of knowledge such as PMBOK, there are other important IT management practices that provide additional valuable support to project managers.

This seminar will cover IT management best practices that go beyond the usual IT project management bodies of knowledge as well as provide a forum for knowledge sharing by experienced IT managers.

9:50am IT Service Management – Why all IT project managers need to know this management practice

Mr. Goh Boon Nam Chief New Initiatives and Strategic Planning, ISS

Project management methodologies and bodies of knowledge provide best practices on what to do to deliver a project into production but do not cater fully on how to manage the project once it is live – e.g. in the commissioning stage, or even in the full operational phase. That is where IT service management and its international best practice, ITIL® (with its comprehensive suite of 26 management processes) come in to provide support for managing the live system – not just in the operations phase, but earlier (e.g. strategy, design & transition) phases to ensure that all the preparation required for successful operations is in place, and there is continual improvement. Boon Nam, who is a certified ITIL Expert and overseeing IT service management practice in ISS, will explain what is IT service management and how it is an invaluable complement to project management.

This talk will show how all these different aspects of IT management (project management and beyond) are needed to ensure that the IT of an enterprise is well run and has good alignment to the needs of the business.
