Stackable Programmes

stackable programmes

The Stackable Programmes are alternative pathway for continuing education. They consist of a series of professional/graduate certificates that will stack up towards a Master of Technology, Graduate Diploma or Professional Diploma. Each certificate is a recognition of the knowledge and skills you have required, making you ready for certain types of job roles.

You will have the flexibility of studying at your own pace by taking the required modular courses that make up the various certificates to meet your needs. PMEs who do not wish to attain professional/graduate certificates, a professional diploma, a graduate diploma or a master's degree can continue to attend individual modular courses thus allowing you to gain the skills to meet your career needs.

What Are Stackable Programmes

Stackable programmes are intended as a facility for continuing education, with an NUS-ISS Certificate awarded for the completion of the courses and a corresponding certificate-level assessment. It is suitable for anyone looking to acquire specific skill sets and know-how, or an alternative pathway to obtain a graduate degree.
  • There are no programme level prerequisites for the various courses that make up the certificates. It strictly depends on your ability to learn the necessary materials and perform at the level of competence necessary to be awarded the respective certificates.
  • You may take certificate courses that meet your immediate needs, at your own pace. Certificates are standalone and can be taken separately (subject to course level prerequisites).
  • For those who choose to complete the series of certificates that stack up to a full degree, you will be awarded the same graduate degree as our full-time and part-time programme students.

What Are The Benefits

There are many advantages to stackable programmes:
  1. You can choose to sign up for individual certificate courses without having to commit to a full programme. Such bite-sized training is particularly useful for working adults looking to acquire skill sets according to their needs at the appropriate times in your career, while balancing work and family commitments.
  2. Stackable programmes support lifelong learning, as study and work no longer need to be sequential, but can be interspersed throughout one's life. You take ownership of your learning - learning and re-learning in areas relevant to your careers, or for planning a career change. At all times, it supports a continued updating and upgrading of skills and knowledge.
  3. The programmes are stackable, the curriculum responds quickly to industry developments and technology advancements. This ensures that training continues to be as relevant to industry as possible.
  4. For adult learners, a stackable programme provides the scope to recognise your prior skills and know-how; awarding relevant credit exemptions so that learning becomes more efficient.

Policy for Matriculation of Stackable Programme Students

1. Eligibility
Students may apply for matriculation after completing all the required GradCerts. They should meet a minimum CAP of 3.0 to apply, in addition to all other NUS/ISS requirements.
Students may apply for matriculation while they are waiting for the results of their final GradCert. In such cases, students may be offered conditional entry subject to meeting the minimum CAP of 3.0 after their results are released. Students on conditional entry may start their Capstone projects. Students will not be granted conditional entry to start an Internship.
Students may apply for matriculation after completing one or more GradCerts, but before completing all the required GradCerts, subject to meeting all other NUS/ISS requirements, and subject to availability of places:
•Students with CAP >=3.0 will be evaluated together with all other applicants in the cohort
•Students with CAP <3.0 should continue on the stackable pathway
•Students who do not meet the usual NUS/ISS requirements (e.g., those without an undergraduate degree) may apply to be matriculated under special circumstances only after completing all of their GradCerts and meeting a minimum CAP of 3.0.

2. Process
Stackable students may apply for matriculation during the normal recruitment cycles for the through-train programmes.
Applications will adhere to NUS and ISS usual application and admission processes, terms & conditions.

3. Course schedules
Stackable students who matriculate are expected to follow the on-going programme schedule of either the part-time or full-time cohorts.
Stackable students who matriculate after completing all their GradCerts may appeal to start their Capstone project or Internship on a different schedule. These appeals will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

4. Fees

Subsidies may differ depending on the pathway, and will be applied according to the pathway taken at the point of billing.
Subsidies may be pro-rated by the modular courses to be taken. Students should refer to the details of the specific subsidies available for more information. Miscellaneous fees will be charged by semester for all matriculated students.
