3:30pm Analytics: signal or noise?

Prof. Jorge Sanz Director, Business Analytics Centre and Visiting Professor, School of Computing, National University of Singapore

The advent of analytics has been exciting but it is also plagued with ambiguity, challenges for value-creation and reinvention of the technical wheel. Furthermore, the gravitational force of commoditisation has also arrived and it is already affecting labor distribution in the world. Given the enormous economic opportunity that analytics entails, we have an imperative to formulate a number of critical questions (after all, the entire analytics domain is about asking the right questions). This seminar will be an informal journey motivating some of these questions and eliciting ideas toward potential answers: Can we tell signal from marketing noise? Can we guide our policy makers not to confuse privacy rights with "analytics malpractice"? Can we educate for the skills needed in the rest of the decade without missing the iceberg effect? Is Data a "science"? and a few other topics will be addressed.

4:15pm

Social Media Analytics Software Tour and Demo by IBM

The promises of Social Media Analytics are extremely attractive - grow your business by understanding consumer/constituent sentiment, make data-driven decisions based on campaign effectiveness, and improve customer experience by responding quickly to issues and requests. But often times, filtering the noise and sifting through social media data to draw valuable insights are more easily said than done.

IBM is uniquely positioned to help our clients transform findings into actionable insights using frameworks that validate investment decisions in social analytics, predict consumer/constituent behaviour and discover new ideas or opportunities through integration with advanced analytics tools. Through demos and case studies, see how when combined with predictive analytics, social media analytics becomes much more impactful and enables more effective decision making across organisation.
