Building Digital Capabilities, Driving Innovation - NUS-ISS Learning Day 2017

Over 300 participants attended the 3rd NUS-ISS Learning Day on 11 August this year – a one-day event that is focused on building digital capabilities and driving innovation through inspiring and fostering the spirit of learning across different industry topics and practice areas.

DSC_3358Designed as a learning journey, the programme featured 31 presentations, workshops and panel discussions across various proficiency levels and participants across seven tracks on Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Development & Engineering, Digital Leadership, Internet of Things, Learning & Development, as well as Product & Project Management. A Learning Pathways Score Card was provided for the participants to track and record what they have learnt at the event.

Echoing industry trends and demand, the 3rd NUS-ISS Learning Day saw the addition of three new tracks, in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and Learning & Development respectively. Panelists discussed the role which AI played in Singapore’s vision of a Smart Nation, as well as interesting, ethical issues that may arise from AI, as well as what it means to be digitally talented in this era of digital disruption.

DSC_2768Held successfully for the 3rd time this year, the NUS-ISS Learning Day has established itself as a well-rounded content-focused learning platform which covers the latest insights and knowledge in digital transformation and is taught by our teaching staff with an average of 20 years of industry experience, and guest speakers from the industry. Members of Project Management Institute (PMI) were also able to pick up invaluable Professional Development Units (PDUs) for selected sessions.

“I’m so satisfied with what I’ve learnt at the Learning Day,” said Hyogo Okada from Microsoft, one of the participants at the event, “So I’d appreciate it if you could increase the frequency or length of the event – I would really like to attend more sessions!”

Ng Weng Kuan, another participant, certainly agrees as well, “A good overview on the latest happenings within the various pathways, certainly worth the efforts taken to attend the event!”

Also at the event is a Project Showcase, where we showcase 15 top projects that are done by our teaching staff and by our graduate programme students as part of their internship or team-based projects with organisations from various industries.

DSC_3147Participants also got to meet and interact with the NUS-ISS Humanoid, Bernard, one of Singapore’s first Advanced Healthcare Humanoid Project which is fully 3D-printed and assembled in-house, with advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning programmed into it.

Other projects featured at the Project Showcase include an Account Based Ticketing System Feasibility Study done with the Land Transport Authority (LTA), a F&B Content Management System done with Chlorocode, and Ink Cartridge Internal Colourmix Anomaly Detection project done with Hewlett Packard (HP).

“The Learning Day is in line with NUS-ISS’ commitment to impart deep skills that enable professionals to apply the skills to do better, to do more and to do new things that generate tremendous value for their organisations,” said Khoong Chan Meng, Director & CEO, NUS-ISS, “as with all our training programmes, we are looking to nurture the spirit of “always learning, always leading” in developing the next generation of digital talent.”
