Q&A with Amanda Ang, Head of Human Resources

Our Head of Human Resources, Amanda Ang, has years of experience in talent recruitment and development across regions, and believes in creating change and striving for the better.

Find out what drives her at work and what else she (secretly) has a flair for.

Amanda-profile1. Please tell us about your professional background

I was formerly the Regional Human Resource Manager of RGE Pte Ltd and was responsible for 4 business groups across 12 countries. During my stint with the organisation, I led the team in developing and executing human resource strategies to drive talent acquisitions, compensation and benefits, performance management, talent development as well as succession planning.

Prior to this, I was with Genting Malaysia and had progressed very quickly to be a Human Resource Manager at very young age and managed up to 10,000 staff. I spearheaded several major projects including the opening of Genting Manila and Genting Singapore, the launch of the aviation division and the new VIP club. I was then selected and transferred to Resorts World at Sentosa to be part of the pioneer team where I actively drove recruitment strategies and worked closely with the rewards team to launch several policies and retention program in order to reduce attrition and ensure talent pipeline for the integrated resort.

I am passionate about aligning human resource strategic plans with the organisation’s business goals, recruiting the right candidate and developing talents.

2. Could you share more about what you do and how this facilitates and impacts organisational development?

HR professionals are always about improvements and upscaling – be it training, talent recruitment, developing benefit plans, exploring new HR technological tools or increasing efficiency of processes. I take this as a challenge and am always looking at raising the bar and making a difference in the organisation. An ex-colleague also recently shared that the programmes and processes that I have designed and implemented a few years ago are still employed and continue to bring value and impact the organisation.

3. What do you enjoy most about your work?

I enjoy adopting innovative methods and tools in HR, which are implemented for the people or processes. There’s also a sense of fulfillment when I can offer new solutions to problems.

My career has also allowed me to see different parts of the world, meet new people and explore different cultures. Along the way, I have been exposed to various areas of HR.

4. How do you keep up with the industry?

Even for a seasoned HR practitioner, I am always engaged and kept on my toes everyday whether it means discovering a new facet of HR or the organisation, working on a project, working through matters with employee or working hand-in-hand with Institute for Human Resources Professionals (IHRP).

5.
What are your favorite activities when you are not working?

I love watching movies, traveling and enjoying outdoor activities with family.

6. Tell us something about yourself that very few people know.

You’ll be surprised to know that I am a certified Taekwondo black belt 2nd Dan, have won many tournaments and was a national player.
