Rajan Dhingra shares that taking up the NUS Master of Technology in Enterprise Business Analytics programme (MTech EBAC) was a leap of faith which on hindsight turned out to be a great boost for his career.
Previously a Project and Maintenance Manager at Trident India, the 27-year-old decided to take up the MTech EBAC programme to shift towards a technology driven domain and step up to a challenging analytics role in an ever-changing digital economy.
“My internship at NTUC Income, Singapore gave me an opportunity to work on user interaction analytics projects for their online channels. I worked on the formulation of a Customer 360 single database and built a proof of concept for the prospect scoring of online users" Rajan recalled with much satisfaction.
"I was in constant touch with my NUS-ISS supervisor for feedback and evaluation which helped me to deliver the project within the time constraints" Rajan added.
MTech EBAC is specifically designed to meet the industry demand for data scientists who can help organisations achieve improved business outcomes through data insights It is also available as Stackable Graduate Certificate Programme in Data Science.
The MTech EBAC programme is targeted at working professionals who wish to enhance their existing skill sets and prepares students for specialist, expert and leadership roles in enterprise business analytics to create business value through strategic use of data, analytics, models and frontline tools.
Rajan said, “ The key challenge was to understand the broad spectrum on analytics and work on the core speciality in the skill set so that I can position myself better in the job market. I tried to learn different segments of market from industry experienced lecturers, peers and alumni.
Today, Rajan is working as a Data Scientist (Analytics) at Grab Holdings Inc. where he analyses data on a daily basis to understand how users experience the product, from which feedback is given to enable the Product Management & Design team to focus on the right outcomes and feature set whilst generating data-driven hypotheses to solve key product and business problems.
Having been through the programme, Rajan found that "his lecturers, with diverse experience, often shares their industry experience which is really valuable, and helped him to understand the analytics industry in a more profound way."

For future students, Rajan advises to "dream big and back it with enormous hard work. It may feel counter-intuitive but it is important to fail early. It motivates us to try different things and to find your core strengths during such a transformational programme as the NUS MTech EBAC". "The postgraduate programme had certainly opened doors for me to explore a high growth sector and added technical skills required to to solve the hard problems we are facing today." added Rajan.
