From making hybrid working permanent to diving into an exploration of the capabilities of Generative AI, the realm of work has seen dramatic transformations over the last couple of years

But the changes are far from over. The landscape of work will not only continue to evolve, but it’s gearing up to become even more dynamic. According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2023, 44% of workers’ core skills will change in the next five years, emphasising the need for both employees and employers to stay ahead through constant skills refresh.

With this, the future of work takes centre stage at the eighth instalment of NUS-ISS Learning Festival 2023.

Themed “Empowering Careers, Turbocharging Professional Growth”, the month-long Festival featured an exciting lineup of activities designed to empower industry professionals in Singapore and beyond with new dimensions of knowledge and exciting career opportunities in the digital domain.

A dynamic learning journey

The NUS-ISS Learning Festival Month commenced with a full day of engaging learning sessions held at the NUS-ISS' campus on 20 October. Drawing an impressive attendance by over 400 industry professionals, the event brought together esteemed industry practitioners and thought leaders from various sectors – all gathered under one roof.

Through keynote presentations, panel discussions, workshops and fireside chats, participants connected with and heard from guest speakers from renowned companies including Google, Oracle and OCBC. It was a unique opportunity for participants to tap into the wealth of experience shared by these experts. The sessions provided them with profound insights into the cutting edge of innovation and explored the latest trends in the fascinating realm of AI, green economy, data, trailblazing digital product trends, and more.

In November, the Learning Festival continued in the digital realm with a captivating series of curated webinars. This online extension reached a global audience of 250 industry professionals who signed up to learn about some of the hottest topics in technology. The live, interactive sessions offered participants a front-row seat to some of the most compelling trends in technology including cybersecurity, Generative AI, and user experience.

What set these sessions apart was not just the subject matter but the expertise behind them. Helmed by our very own NUS-ISS lecturers with more than two decades of industry experience under their belt, these sessions delved into the very essence of the critical skills that digital professionals must possess in this new era of work.

Connecting talent with tomorrow's careers

A fresh addition to this year's Learning Festival this year was the NUS-ISS TalentXperience held on 27 October. Organised in partnership with SG Innovate, this exclusive platform was designed to connect NUS-ISS graduate programme students with coveted internship opportunities at leading companies across industries.

The event allowed students to directly engage with company representatives and expand their professional networks. They also had the chance to secure internship positions, gain practical exposure, and contribute to the ever-evolving tech landscape. Key industry partners who are involved in NUS-ISS TalentXperience include The Coca Cola Company, the Health Sciences Authority (HSA), Mediacorp, KPMG, and SingHealth Polyclinics (SHP).

“By providing tangible opportunities, industry insights, and practical skills, the NUS-ISS Learning Festival aims to continue being the bridge between industry professionals and their journey towards building fulfilling and future-proof careers. We do so by enabling professionals to not only sharpen their skills, bolster growth in their own careers, but also contribute to their organisations’ innovation and transformation,” Mr Khoong adds.
