NUS-ISS reaffirms its commitment to accelerating digital excellence with ISS 2030 strategy

The strategy will focus on four key pillars: executive education, graduate programmes, industry and international engagement, and organisational development.

Singapore, 30 July 2024 ⎯ NUS-ISS reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to guiding and partnering both talent and organisations in their pursuit of digital excellence at the NUS-ISS Annual Luncheon 2024 held today at Conrad Centennial Singapore. The institute outlined its ISS 2030 strategy to realise this vision, which focuses on four key pillars: executive education, graduate programmes, industry and international engagement, and organisational development.

“Our ISS 2030 strategy is a renewal of our commitment to the NUS-ISS mission of accelerating and shaping the next curve of digital excellence,” said Mr Khoong Chan Meng, CEO, NUS-ISS. “The institute has evolved and grown from strength to strength over the past four decades. As we continue to develop and inspire the next generation of digital talent, NUS-ISS is stepping up to contribute even more. We aim to be the national and regional leader in enabling the digital economy.”

The NUS-ISS Annual Luncheon 2024 was attended by over 200 industry partners, stakeholders, alumni and distinguished guests. Mrs Josephine Teo, Minister for Digital Development and Information, and Minister-in-charge of Smart Nation and Cybersecurity, graced the event as the Guest-of-Honour.

NUS-ISS was established in 1981 to support Singapore in its push towards computerisation by nurturing IT professionals and leaders who can spearhead digitisation efforts for the nation. Through graduate education, executive education programmes and research services, NUS-ISS was a pioneering force in Singapore's digital transformation journey. It played a pivotal role in elevating the digital competency of the public sector, developing the information and communications technology (ICT) industry, as well as nurturing a pool of ICT talent to boost the nation’s competitiveness in the digital economy. To date, the institute has trained over 178,000 digital leaders and professionals, more than 8,400 corporate client organisations, and close to 8,200 graduate programmes alumni.

To ensure that its programmes are consistently meeting the needs of the industry, NUS-ISS works closely with its industry partners to develop contextualised, practice-based curriculum that can future-proof their workforce capabilities. 

In a landmark move in 2020, NUS-ISS was appointed as the Operations Partner for The Digital Academy by the Government Technology Agency (GovTech Singapore) to raise the digital quotient of public servants in Singapore. Since the academy’s inception, NUS-ISS has trained over 8,000 public service officers and more than 300 public service leaders. NUS-ISS also worked with GovTech to develop ICT Assessment Certification programmes to help government agencies systematise the evaluation of IT companies’ abilities to meet the requirements of government projects.

On the corporate engagement front, NUS-ISS remains steadfast in its support in helping industry partners elevate workforce capabilities through programmes such as the Visa Technology Traineeship and the Institute of Banking and Finance’s Technology in Finance Immersion Programme. The NCS Nucleus Programme, which was launched in 2019 and conducted by NUS-ISS, has since awarded graduate certificates, which are stackable towards a NUS Master of Technology in Software Engineering, to nearly 970 NCS staff. 12 NCS staff are currently working on their capstone projects and are on track to receive their Master's degrees soon.

Since 2009, NUS-ISS has been the official country training partner for ISC2 (International Information System Security Certification Consortium), training more than 4,000 cybersecurity professionals and preparing them for ISC2 certifications such as the renowned CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional).

In 2023, NUS-ISS and the Singapore Computer Society collaborated to offer two joint certification programmes: Managing Digital Products; and DevSecOps Engineering and Automation. To date, more than 750 participants have obtained the certifications which can be stacked up into graduate certificates as part of the NUS Master of Technology in Software Engineering.

Expanding the reach of NUS-ISS programmes

Moving forward, through its ISS 2030 strategy, NUS-ISS will continue empowering the industry, helping them solve problems, transform, and achieve high-impact business outcomes. The institute will collaborate closely with its industry partners to constantly iterate and develop new curriculum – for both its executive education and graduate programmes – to address emerging gaps in digital competencies.

NUS-ISS also aims to expand its suite of corporate partnerships in stackable enrolment and diversify its enrolment across geographies. The institute’s online Blended Learning programmes, launched in 2022, garnered success and gained traction among international participants including the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and Japan. NUS-ISS will progressively roll out the blended learning modality, which leverages innovative technology to transform learner experiences and outcomes, across its other programmes.

NUS-ISS is also bridging talent across borders through our Data Science Leadership Programme with Ayala Corporation in Manila and a partnership with the FedEx Institute of Technology at the University of Memphis. Currently, the institute is also in discussions with public and private sector partners in various countries to establish digital skills academies. This will help uplift the capabilities of the workforce in their respective communities.
