[NUS ISS] 2024.11.14 (woB) - 139

It was a celebratory occasion as the Graduate Diploma in Systems Analysis (GDipSA) 57th cohort gathered for their Graduation Ceremony at the NUS-ISS Inspire Theatre held on 14 November 2024.

Said Guest-of-Honour Ms Ngiam Siew Ying, Synapxe Chief Executive Officer, "Take your responsibilities seriously, but don't take yourself too seriously. Don't let your pride get ahead of yourself, remember the basics and fundamentals and, most importantly, don't let failure get the better of you."

Valedictorian Ms Lee Siew Chen encouraged her fellow graduates, “Whether you entered this programme with programming experience or not, each of you took bold steps outside your comfort zones. In a dynamic, ever-evolving field like tech, it's this courage to tackle new challenges that will set you apart. Be fearless, keep learning and remember that every step forward opens new doors."

Extending a warm welcome to the newest members of the NUS-ISS GDipSA alumni family was Mr Tin Aung Latt who graduated in 2007. Aung Latt, an Assistant Lead Engineer at Synapxe, reflected on how NUS-ISS equipped him with the skills and confidence to transition from a non-IT background into the tech industry and later excel in healthcare technology.

Emphasising the importance of staying connected with the NUS-ISS alumni community, he highlighted the value of exchanging ideas, collaborating on initiatives, and mentoring fellow graduates. "Networking is more than just a career resource; it's a community of like-minded professionals who share common experiences, challenges and goals."

As the graduates embark on their professional journeys, Aung Latt encouraged them to leverage their skills to drive meaningful change through technology. He reminded them to remain lifelong learners and active contributors to the alumni network, saying, "The lessons you've learned and the skills you've gained here are just the beginning - what you do with them will shape the impact you make in the world."

A GDipSA graduate's journey

In order to transit into a digital professional within a year, our GDipSA graduates had to master five programming languages over the course of seven months and complete projects that involved developing IT solutions utilising Web, Mobile, and Machine learning technologies. They also underwent a rigorous month-long project that includes product ideation, problem-solving, user experience design, system analysis and design, coding, testing, and implementation. And experienced a five-month internship to apply their newly acquired knowledge, in real-world scenarios, developing and delivering digital solutions that clients required.

The room was filled with proud parents and loved ones as the day unfolded, creating unforgettable memories at this momentous occasion. To all our graduates, we extend our heartfelt congratulations once again! Your hard work and dedication have brought you to this remarkable milestone. The future holds endless possibilities, and we eargerly look forward to all the incredible achievements you will accomplish.
