Objectives
There are two objectives of the practice module:
Firstly, to expose participants to realistic problems they may encounter in the workplace where they may apply the skill-sets they have learned during the component courses in a holistic manner.
Secondly, to enable participants to demonstrate their proficiency across all of the skills that they have learned in the course modules and hence obtain a grade at the Graduate Certificate Level.
Intended Audience
This practice module is targeted at participants who wish to complete the certification process for the Graduate Certificate in “Analytics Project Management”.
Prerequisites
Participants must have successfully obtained a competent score (or have been exempted from) the four component courses for the Graduate Certificate in Analytics Project Management as listed in the introduction to the Graduate Certificate page.
Components
There are two parts to the Practice Module.
- Practice Project: Participants will need to undertake a project to gain practical experience and demonstrate their understanding and mastery of the skills taught in the four component courses. The practice project will require each participant to expend an estimated 10 days of effort.
- These projects are conducted in groups of 4-5. The size of the group is chosen that the participant can exercise teamwork and also make independent individual contributions.
- Examination: Each participant is required to sit for an examination on a stipulated date and time.
- The overall grade for the participant will be based on the Practice project and Examination.
Typical examples of projects that can be undertaken
- Problem description:
In several companies, the call centres for customers form a frontline to cater to customers’ needs and requests. Very often, the operations of these call centres are not efficient and ad-hoc actions are taken to serve the customers. There is a wealth of data that can be analysed to better serve customers, for example their key concerns, the response time to attend to these customers, the follow-up actions and etc. There is also a need for companies to keep up to date the status of the call centre operations, and improve its efficiency, and at the same time adhering to best practices in data privacy and control measures
Deliverables and success criteria:
- Develop a project management plan highlighting the key deliverables and risks to the project
- Deliver a real-time dashboard to monitor the customers’ calls and feedback
- Document and review a data governance policy framework for the protection of customer data
- Review and develop fundamental statistical techniques to analyse the customers’ data to improve turnaround time to attend to customers’ needs
- Problem description:
Another potential project can be a platform for companies to manage their customer and vendor acquisition processes. Whilst most companies have a well-made presentation deck that highlights their products at the granular level, they lack a holistic analytics framework that optimises both their customer and vendor management framework. The lack of this holistic framework often means that companies are not able to identify the key bottlenecks and optimise their vendor acquisition operations, which are often done at a piecemeal level.
Deliverables and success criteria:
- Develop a project management plan highlighting the key deliverables and risks to the project
- Deliver a dashboard to monitor customer and vendor acquisition status
- Document and review a data governance policy framework for the protection and maintenance of customer data and vendor data
- Review and develop fundamental statistical techniques to predict customers’ data and vendors’ supply information
