Dr. Bernard Leong


Profile

Dr Bernard Leong is an adjunct lecturer in the AI Practice, NUS-ISS and NUS Business School. Dr Bernard Leong is currently in a career transition to return as an entrepreneur to build a new enterprise AI company. As an experienced senior executive with an extensive business and technology management background in the digital space, he held regional business roles as the Head of Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning in Amazon Web Services for ASEAN from 2019-2021 and Vice President of Airbus Aerial from 2018-2019 specifically on satellite and drone services in the Asia Pacific and  held senior management roles in Singapore Post as the Head of Digital Services & Post Office Network (Retail) from 2013-2017 and Group Chief Information & Digital Office in Woh Hup (2021-2023). While not in his corporate hat, he's a connector to the Southeast Asia entrepreneurial ecosystem as an entrepreneur in residence at INSEAD Business School for more than a decade. Bernard is the founder and host of the Analyse Asia podcast where he interviewed global thought leaders, key industry players and journalists across major media outlets from The Information to Wall Street Journal. He is an active independent angel investor specializing in Web3 and AI startups over the past three years by himself or with the XA Network. As a startup founder, Bernard started two startup companies which one of them is acquired by Tech in Asia (now acquired by SPH Media). 

Bernard received his PhD degree in Physics, specializing in cosmology & astrophysics in the Cavendish Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. Prior to his corporate and startup roles, he did his postdoctoral fellowship in the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and Genome Institute of Singapore, where he developed machine learning algorithms to search for mRNA targets in stem cell regulation. He has published more than 10 academic papers in different areas: astrophysics and cosmology, computational biology, economics, and entrepreneurship. He has done a sabbatical in the Global Solutions Program from Singularity University in 2016 where he spent 3 months in Silicon Valley.
