Deploying AI Apps using TensorFlow Lite in Mobile Devices
By Mr Prasanna Veerapandi (Bala), Associate Lecturer & Consultant, Software Systems Practice

In this demo-oriented session, Bala will illustrate techniques and steps involved from building a machine learning model to deploying it on mobile devices (Android) using TensorFlow Lite.

TensorFlow Lite is TensorFlow’s light weight solution for mobile and embedded devices, which lets you run models on mobile devices with low latency. Take advantage of doing regression or classification without necessarily calling an API or taking to a server.
Talk with Demo Smart Systems

Intelligent Large-Scale IoT Patient Monitoring System in Hospitals & Localised Environments
By Mr George Heng, Vice President, Providence Solutions

NUS-ISS has been collaborating with Providence Solutions to develop the future of patient care monitoring system in hospitals and localized centres. There is currently a shortage of nurses and the frequent need to take patient’s vitals manually is intensive for nurses and disruptive for patients. Our developed wearable system provides close to real-time tracking of hundreds of patient’s vitals, position and falls, which can be autonomously monitored via the system and give timely alerts to nurses in the event of an occurrence.
Talk Smart Systems

Intelligence on the (bleeding) Edge/Fog: Bringing AI Closer to the Customer
By Ms Lisa Ong, Principal Lecturer & Consultant, Software Systems Practice

Digital services that run on the cloud are facing challenges in a world with increased scrutiny around data privacy. This balancing act mandates the need to process an ever increasing quantity of raw data in real-time speed. To overcome such challenges, many services are moving towards the “fog” or “edge.” This typically involves moving services away from faraway cloud deployments and closer to where the sensor data is being collected at the customer.

Come, understand what “intelligent edge computing” is all about. Lisa will also touch on the OpenFog Architecture, TensorFlow Lite, and Amazon DeepLens.
Talk Artificial Intelligence

Vision Sensing and Sensemaking: Did you see me do that?

Introduction to Reinforcement Learning
By Mr Lee Chuk Munn, Chief, StackUp Programme

Reinforcement learning (RL) is an area of artificial intelligence where the goal is to train an agent to take the most optimal actions based on its understanding of a given environment. It is so versatile, the agent can be a physical robot or a piece of software and the environment can be a Blackjack game or the stock trading floor.

In this demo-oriented session, we will illustrate basic RL concepts by implementing an agent to balance a pole in Python.

Talk Cybersecurity

AI and Cybersecurity – Solution or Threat?
By Ms Angela Huang, Principal Lecturer & Consultant, Digital Strategy & Leadership Practice

'AI is the new electricity', proclaimed Andrew Ng, co-founder of Google Brain. Just as we need to know how to safely harness electricity, we also need to know how to securely employ AI to power our businesses. In some scenarios, the security of AI systems is a matter of life & death. Hence, it is imperative that AI systems be constructed in a robust manner to be resilient against malice, mischance and misuse. On the flip side, AI can also be misused by cyber-adversaries and so we need to understand how to counter them. This talk will provide an overview of 3 areas: various attacks against the security, safety & privacy of AI systems, AI-powered attacks and the use of AI in cybersecurity.
