Graduate Certificate in Architecting Smart Systems

Overview

Smart Systems are autonomous systems consisting of sensors, actuators and computing that collaborate with other systems and interact with humans intelligently.

For example, the proposed London Traffic System for 2020 and beyond will consist of a network of millions of traffic sensors to optimise traffic based on usage, such as giving priority to late-running buses and improving journey planning. The system will consume from a range of data sources covering pedestrians, cyclists, vehicles, and dynamically adjust traffic flows in real time.

Other Smart Systems include autonomous patient healthcare, self-tracking logistics delivery systems, and Industry 4.0 connected manufacturing.

A Smart Systems Architect needs the visionary and technical capacity to architect, design, build, and deploy autonomous intelligent systems in the real world. He or she will need to understand IoT architecture, protocols, security, frameworks, how to leverage Edge Computing to run responsive and scalable AI in constrained environments, and how to blend these into a holistic system.

This certificate course has been designed to provide you with the specialized combination of skills to build a layered Smart System from device, edge/fog to cloud. You will learn from practical case studies and hands-on experience programming IoT and Edge devices, and incorporating human-centric elements such as wearables, vision, touch and more.

 Key Takeaways

  • Architect smart, scalable, end-to-end platforms for IoT
  • Develop, design and integrate systems that perform sense-making from a variety of sensors, edge devices, and other systems
  • Build smart systems that need to collaborate or cooperate intelligently with humans

Duration: 22 days
