Multi-sided platforms have become a dominant business model in the modern digital economy. Digital-native platform companies have transformed traditional market dynamics across regions and sectors, while established enterprises are increasingly launching marketplace platforms to connect consumers, service providers and ecosystem partners within unified digital environments.

Yet, many data professionals lack a structured understanding of the strategic logic that underpins these businesses, and many business professionals do not appreciate the data capabilities that make platform strategies work in practice. Without understanding how network effects are sustained through improved matching and recommendations, how monetisation choices shape data collection, or how launch strategies rely on real-time experimentation and diagnostics, teams often build strategies they cannot execute or analytics that miss core business priorities.
Purpose-built for data professionals, this course ensures every business concept is paired directly with its data strategy implication. What Will Be Covered

  • Explore the foundational economics and structural dynamics of digital ecosystems.
    • Participants will examine network effects, liquidity, critical mass thresholds, and winner-takes-all dynamics. You will learn how data collection and matching quality improve interactions and sustain network effects. Platform typologies, such as marketplaces and innovation platforms, and how they determine data architecture, discovery system design, and operational analytics needs will also be covered.
  • Examine how platforms generate revenue and overcome the initial challenges of building a user base.
    • Participants will evaluate pricing strategies, subsidy-side economics, take rates, and the role of personalisation in monetisation effectiveness. You will also analyse ignition strategies (seeding, piggybacking, marquee strategies) and the data signals required for validating ignition success.
  • Practicalities of going to market, operating within complex environments, and securing market position.
    • Participants will dive into pre-launch strategies, metrics for validating product-market fit, and experimentation. The curriculum concludes with an examination of antitrust principles, global regulatory landscapes, competitive strategies under regulation, and data governance considerations as competitive requirements.
